HAITI REPORT

One of the many "tent cities" in Port-au-Prince

On January 12, 2010 at 4:53 p.m., Haiti was ravaged by a 7.0 earthquake that killed more than 250,000 people, left 1.5 million homeless, and created what aid groups have called the most complex humanitarian crisis of modern times.

I had the privilege of visiting Port-au-Prince, the capital city and epicenter of the earthquake the first week of November. It was overwhelming to see the condition and the need in Haiti today.  Approximately 1 million people are still misplaced and living in massive tent cities. Because of the prayers of God’s people everywhere, the hurricane that could have brought another major disaster missed Haiti for the most part!

There is virtually no mail and postal service, very little electricity and clean water. The cholera outbreak in the north has now appeared in Port-au-Prince as well.  This is a country that needs an intervention from God!

However, God IS moving in this ravaged country! I sensed a fresh outpouring on God’s people there and the Foursquare family is alive! It was great to visit our long time friends, John and Debbie Booker, who head up the Foursquare Base Camp in Port-au-Prince. We’ll be going back in January with a team.

A SPECIAL PROJECT: We are raising money for a church in the Lascahabos area, a very mountainous part of central Haiti (pictured above). This church currently meets on top of a mountain which takes over an hour to walk up. The new property will be quite a bit lower and the church will be able to reach people living at the foot of the mountain as well. Check out this article on the Foursquare website about this church.

If you would like to give towards this project with a tax-exempt donation please send it to:

(Designate to "Lascahabos Church" in the memo)

Thank you,
